The National Museum Zurich, Château de Prangins, the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz and the Collection Centre in Affoltern am Albis are united under the umbrella of the Swiss National Museum. The museums present the history of Switzerland from its beginnings to the present day and provide insight into Swiss identity and the diversity of Swiss history and culture, also through temporary exhibitions addressing current topics.
The National Museum Zurich is Switzerland’s most frequently visited historical museum. With an inventory of more than 860,000 objects, the Collection Centre contains Switzerland’s largest collection of items relating to cultural history and arts and crafts. It houses the various collections of the Swiss National Museum, the studios of the conservators and restorers, the laboratory for conservation research, as well as the object logistics, lending and object registration facilities and the photo studio.
